Grease Monkey is a cannabis strain with all the aromatics of an auto shop—and then some! This hybrid reeks with pungent gassy notes in a similar vein to famous strains like Sour Diesel. However, unlike many Diesel-related cultivars, Grease Monkey is an indica-forward strain with mostly sedative properties. Also, thanks to Grease Monkey’s GSC lineage, there are hints of subtle sweetness and Kush spiciness which many tokers appreciate. While the ultra-high THC percentages may be too much for new users, many people report Grease Monkey is a go-to strain for a “zoned out” late night experience.

Grease Monkey’s Origins: Its History, Genotype, And Average Cannabinoid Percentages

Breeders at the Tacoma-based Exotic Genetix get all the credit for creating the first batch of the Grease Monkey strain. According to most reports, Exotic Genetix released Grease Monkey in the 2016 – 2017 season just after launching another famous strain called Tina. Besides Grease Monkey and Tina, Exotic Genetix is well-known for creating Cannabis Cup-winning hybrids such as Starfighter and Supernatural.

The name Grease Monkey is both a nod to this strain’s gasoline flavors and the strong presence of Gorilla Glue #4 (aka GG4). GG4’s distinctive blend of industrial and mocha terpenes overwhelms much of Grease Monkey’s profile, as does its indica properties. However, the addition of the Cookies and Cream hybrid gives Grease Monkey a distinctively sweeter flavor profile. Interestingly, Cookies and Cream is another Exotic Genetix original with traces of the iconic Girl Scout Cookies and Starfighter. Most lab tests suggest Grease Monkey has THC levels well above 25% and indica concentrations of about 70%. Although Grease Monkey may have 1% CBD content, that’s not enough to counter THC’s psychoactive properties. People who don’t do well with high THC strains should stick with high-CBD hemp flowers until they gradually build a tolerance. Many gasoline-heavy hemp strains (e.g., Jumble Cookie, Space Invader, and Sour Space Candy) mimic Grease Monkey’s aromatics without exposing users to excessive THC percentages.

Grease Monkey’s Aroma & Taste

As already hinted, Grease Monkey is primarily known for its strong industrial and gassy notes. Anyone who loves the pungency of citrusy terpenes like limonene will be right at home sniffing and smoking a batch of Grease Monkey nugs. However, Grease Monkey isn’t a one-note sour strain. Indeed, tokers who have experience with GG4 know this parent hybrid has plenty of nuanced notes, including mocha, coffee, and earth.

The addition of Cookies and Cream also gives Grease Monkey a smattering of sweet terpenes, especially vanilla. The distant relation to GSC and OG Kush also gives Grease Monkey a harsh “hashy” edge thanks to the spicy terpene beta-caryophyllene. People may notice whiffs of black pepper as they exhale their Grease Monkey flowers.

What Are Grease Monkey’s Standard Effects?

As an indica-heavy hybrid, Grease Monkey is primarily known for its relaxing “couchlock” properties. Some users may feel a slight sociable buzz thanks to Grease Monkey’s high THC concentration, but this high eventually puts people into a deep and dazed stupor. Some tokers also report Grease Monkey gives them a bad case of the munchies, so it’s best to keep a few snacks nearby if “hanger” strikes.

It’s never a good idea to take Grease Monkey when tokers want to be super productive, however it’s possible to use this strain in intimate party settings. At lower doses, an experienced toker may be able to use Grease Monkey to increase sociability and intimacy without falling asleep. However, people with a low THC tolerance will likely feel like going to bed even after taking a moderate dose of Grease Monkey. If customers want to try Grease Monkey, they should be sure they have nothing on their schedule for the rest of the day.

Potential Side Effects Of Grease Monkey

Potential Side Effects Of Grease Monkey

As with all strains with a high THC percentage, Grease Monkey carries a risk of paranoia. Even though Grease Monkey is known for sedating indica effects, everyone has a different reaction to THC. Preliminary studies suggest some patients may have a genetic predisposition to panic attacks when taking THC-rich cannabis strains. Therefore, people who’ve never used cannabis should avoid flowers with extreme THC concentrations until they have more experience with low-THC products. Ideally, people new to the cannabis industry should start with high-CBD hemp flowers like those on Cannaflower. Unlike traditional THC-laden cannabis, the hemp strains on Cannaflower always have ≤ 0.3% THC concentrations. Since CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, it doesn’t carry the high risk for paranoia in strains like Grease Monkey. As a bonus, countless hemp strains have similar terpenes to those found in popular cannabis strains like Grease Monkey. Be sure to read through Cannaflower’s portfolio to find a CBD-rich smoking experience similar to the Grease Monkey cultivar.
